Is it smart to join the Handyman Club of America?

http://handymanclub.com/

They send you tools to test, then you answer a questionnaire and keep the tools free. There's a monthly fee of $1 and it will be billed annually ($12/year). Also, they give you 3 free gifts to start and a magazine subscription. They say you can cancel at any time during your first year without problems. They will leave you alone after that. I don't know what happens in the second year (fees go up, can't cancel without a fee, etc.) I'm trying to figure out what the catch is. Any ideas?

No real catch. I have joined as a lifetime member. Fees are around $27 yearly after the 1st. Some of the tools you receive are crap, some are not. In retrospect, I should not have joined as a life member. I received quite a few gifts when joining, totaling the cost of membership. These tools are not comparable to national brands, more generic. The cordless drill and light were nice, when it worked. It broke about 3 months after and I still have not gotten a replacement. This was 3 years ago. I have given up trying. I get a magazine every couple of months, which is sub par when comparing other DIY magazines. If you want info about DIY projects, etc. you can get that from other magazines. Cost wise, the life member was around $300, which is cheaper when you consider the cost of other publications over time, but again, the quality really isn't there. Email me if you have any other questions. Hope this helps.
Reply:Yes, they get all the chicks.
Reply:Wanna buy amagazine sub ? wanna get alot of junk mail from all the other peple they are connected with and from all the other people they sell your info to . wanna bunch of junk tools ? Go for it
Reply:Don't do it. The tools you get are only a few little chinsey key chain sized things. And they send you tons of things trying to sell you. My husband wasted his money for a year on that, and they never sent him any tools but the first 3 little things.
