Do you think the media gives teenagers a negative image?

Please give as much information as you can as i am using this as a questionnaire in my school coursework.

Do you think the media gives teenagers a negative image?
Teenagers give themselves a negative image...and so do adults, and drunk drivers and child-molesting clergy and anyone else who allows the world to witness the "worst we have to offer".

Two things to think about here:

In journalism it is often said, "Dog bites man" isn't a worthwhile story. However, "Man bites dog" IS a worthwhile story.

Why?

Newspapers and TV shows and internet sites almost always make their money from advertising.

Advertisers will only pay for ad space when the particular medium (papers, magazines, TV, Radio, etc) can show that people are viewing the advertising.

Add to this, a "free press" really isn't free.

If the newspaper doesn't make a profit, it goes out of business.

So, over the years the media have always been more likely to report something negative than they are likely to report something positive.

Last, there is an old saying that it takes a lot of "atta boys!" to make up for one "Aw Sh*t!"

So, the public is to blame equally, because they form opinions based on sound bites and a two paragraph story with ten photos on the internet.

I hope your report turns out well.
Reply:teenagers give themselves a neg. image
Reply:Teenagers give themselves a negative image by their incessant bad behavior. Not all teens of course, but far too many. There are teens who think it's amusing to set fire to homeless people and watch them writhe in agony; when the teens who did this to one man went to court the parents were outraged and said "Boys will be boys" which I personally find appalling. The parents do contribute much of this bad behavior by never making the teens be accountable or responsible for their own actions and consequently many are growing up as perfect socio-psychopaths.
