What is the design of my study?

I'm looking at cross-cultural differences in anxiety between young adults in HK and UK. Both countries filled in five questionnaires relating to anxiety in terms of personality, anxiety in social situations and test anxiety.

I have no idea what the design of my study is and don't know what the factor/IV or DV is. My data was analysed using one-way ANOVA.

I think that maybe the IV/factor is the country and the DV is anxiety? And it's a one-way factorial design or something?I have no idea!

Please give definite answers. Thank you!

Rune is mostly correct, but you should be careful of a couple of things. This is a quasi-experimental study. Your "IV" is not a true IV because you have not manipulated it. In other words, you did not randomly assign participants to have either a HK or UK culture. This is a subject variable and thus not a true experimental variable. So be careful naming your variable. You think you are doing a study of cross-cultural differences, but you did not measure culture in any way. You simply chose people from different cities.

Also for the DV, this is also not as straightforward as you think. You need to define your DV clearly. You have measured things like personality, in some cases that is likely to also be a subject variable and NOT a DV. It's an additional IV.

Are you only measuring test anxiety? It doesn't look like it. In this case you have used an inappropriate statistical analysis. You have a set up that has multiple IV's and multiple DV's so you need a more sophisticated analysis. email me if you have more questions.
Reply:Between subjects design.

IV: Country

DV: Scores on the anxiety measures.
